2022 Gevrey-Chambertin 'Mes Cinq Terroirs', Domaine Denis Mortet

Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France

This cuvée has enjoyed various incarnations over the years but its current name seems here to stay. It’s made from fruit from 5 plots (the clue is in the name!) on the Coteaux de Brochon to the north of Gevrey totalling around 6 hectares, with each bringing its own character to the final blend. The climats of En Motrot, Au Vellé, Combe du Dessus, En Champs and En Derée are all well-known and well-regarded. There are a lot of old vines in these plots, all producing lots of highly concentrated small berries, allowing Arnaud to be extra delicate with the extraction as the colours and the concentration come easily during vinification. Around 20% new oak and 40% whole bunch. Great intensity and lovely depth and fresh structure. Deceptively fruity, as there is a lot of substance behind the appealing façade. Very promising. Drink from 2028
